Sunday was Sir John's absolutely favourite day of the week. It was the day that the servants were excused and he was 'allowed' to don a rubber mask and (inside the manor house) strip to his drawers and do Lady Mary's bidding. Lady Mary's bidding usually involved lots of dusting, cleaning and scrubbing, and until recently, baking cakes for her, until he burnt his nipples opening the oven door to remove the cakes. After that he stuck to fridge bakes, tasty no-bake cheese cakes and trifle. By Sunday evening the house was always sparkling with Lady Mary full of cheesecake wearing boots so shiny (licked clean by Sir John) you could see your face in them. They loved to draw an end to their special sundays with a quick walk for Sir John on the lead, followed by an episode of Masterchef back at the manor house. Bliss!
